Faith Christian School weekly newsletter for November 9th, 2009
“Good manners will open doors that the best education cannot.” Clarence Thomas. 85% of a person’s success in life depends on how well they get along with others and 15 % is based on technical skills. Everyone likes being around a polite person, and we are trying to help your children value themselves and others, and use basic manners in school. Your child can be the smartest person or have the best job, but it will mean nothing if he doesn’t know how to get along with others. In school we are discussing the golden rule, Ephesians 4:32, and using common courtesy words and actions. At home, the dinner table is the perfect place to teach your children about manners. Think about everything that kids learn at the dinner table; they learn what are appropriate noises, civil dinner conversation, and polite ways to eat. They will carry these skills learned when they meet new people in their adult life tool
Thanksgiving Meal: In celebration of learning manners, we will host a family style Thanksgiving meal for all students and families on Tuesday, November 17th at 6:00 p.m. Faith Christian School will provide the turkey, potatoes, and gravy. We will ask those families with a last name beginning with the letter B-H to bring a side dish to pass, and those families with a last name beginning with the letter O-T to bring a dessert to pass. Please make plans to attend this dinner with your family in support of your child/ren learning about manners.
Parent/teacher Conferences: Conferences are Thursday, November 12th, the schedule was sent home last week. Let me know as soon as possible if you cannot make it at your scheduled time. I ask that children not attend the meeting, but please ask your child if there is anything he wants you to ask me before you come. During this conference we will focus on how your child/ren have been doing academically, spiritually, and socially in the classroom.
Bottle Caps: Please continue to save any bottle caps or jar lids and send them to school with your child. We are trying to get a huge collection of lids for a gigantic sorting activity!
Pinocchio: On Friday, November 20th we will make plans to join Detroit Lakes ECFE on their trip to the MSUM Children’s Theatre. The bus will leave the Lincoln Education Center at 8:30. FCS will pay for the tickets, but please plan on sending lunch money for a stop at McDonalds. More information to come next week.
